Velvet is the odd girl out. No one picks her as a partner. No one understands why she brings a milkweed pod for show and tell. No one walks home from school with her. She collects rocks! Velvet does not seem to care that she does not have any friends. She is happy with herself. Even though the things Velvet does make the other kids think she is "odd" they slowly understand that "odd" is not a bad thing and accept Velvet for who she is.
